Another
new exhibit this spring traces the history of ranching
and farming in the Golden area. Many of the early
settlers came to Colorado in search of gold, but stayed
to build farms and ranches. It was a well-known adage
that the people making the most money during our gold
rush were those who "mined the miners." Supplies of all
kinds were in short demand in the unsettled country, and
people who hauled freight, ran stores, and grew food did
very well by supplying the miners with their
necessities.
The Golden area was home to many farms
and ranches. The part of the Clear Creek valley now
occupied by the Coors brewery was home to orchards and
farms. Cattle ranches filled much of the plains area
surrounding the town.
Many of the artifacts that supported the
farms and ranches are now on display at the museum.
